Umarex CO₂ pistols: own-brand models and licensed replicas
Umarex CO₂ pistols range from straightforward recreational models to Blowback pistols, sport-inspired configurations and officially licensed replicas of well-known handgun platforms.
The range includes pistols for Diabolo pellets, steel BBs and systems compatible with more than one specified projectile type. Fixed-slide and moving-slide models are also available, making it important to compare ammunition, operation, magazine design and ergonomics before choosing.

What makes Umarex CO₂ pistols different?
Umarex is a German company specialising in airguns, CO₂ systems and licensed replicas. Its catalogue combines models sold under the Umarex or UX identities with platforms produced and marketed through official licensing agreements.
This creates a varied range that includes compact and accessible pistols, models with a substantial use of metal components, Blowback systems, sport-inspired designs and detailed replicas of recognised handgun platforms.
Umarex and officially licensed replicas
A significant part of the Umarex catalogue consists of officially licensed CO₂ replicas. Depending on the product and licensing agreement, these replicas may reproduce the name, logos, proportions, ergonomics and characteristic design details of the original platform.
A pistol manufactured or distributed by Umarex may therefore be sold as a Colt, Heckler & Koch, Glock, Beretta or Walther replica. The visible brand identity remains that of the platform being represented, while Umarex acts as the manufacturer or licensed partner.
For more information, read our guide to licensed Glock, Beretta and Walther CO₂ replicas.
How does an Umarex CO₂ pistol work?
An Umarex CO₂ pistol uses carbon dioxide stored under pressure in a capsule. The capsule is normally installed inside the grip or magazine. When the trigger is operated, the valve releases a controlled amount of gas to propel the projectile through the barrel.
Many models use a 12 g CO₂ capsule. The exact operating procedure, capsule installation and achievable shot count vary between pistols. Always follow the product specifications and instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
Diabolo pellets or steel BBs?
Umarex pistols do not all use the same ammunition. Some are designed for Diabolo pellets, while others fire steel BBs. Selected systems can accept more than one projectile type when this compatibility is specifically stated.
| Ammunition | Characteristics | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Diabolo pellets | Shaped projectiles normally used with a compatible rifled barrel. | Target shooting, practice and achieving consistent groups. |
| Steel BBs | Spherical projectiles for pistols specifically designed for this ammunition. | Plinking, replicas and dynamic recreational shooting. |
| Combined system | Selected pistols accept more than one projectile type through a suitable loading system. | Users looking for greater ammunition versatility. |
Umarex pistols with and without Blowback
Umarex Blowback pistols
On a Blowback pistol, part of the available CO₂ is used to move the slide after each shot. This movement creates more dynamic mechanical feedback and can increase the realism of a replica.
Blowback does not automatically provide greater power or accuracy. Because some of the gas operates the slide, shot count may be lower than on a comparable fixed-slide model.
Umarex non-Blowback pistols
On non-Blowback models, the slide normally remains fixed. The CO₂ is used mainly to propel the projectile, usually providing simpler operation and more efficient gas consumption.
| System | Main advantage | Consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Blowback | Moving slide and more dynamic operation. | Slide movement uses part of the available CO₂. |
| Non-Blowback | Simpler mechanism and generally more efficient gas use. | The slide normally remains fixed during firing. |
Main Umarex CO₂ pistols
Availability may change, but the collection regularly includes Umarex-branded models and licensed replicas with different operating concepts.
Umarex UX SA10
The Umarex UX SA10 combines a multi-shot system, Blowback operation and a loading system designed for different compatible 4.5 mm projectiles. It is aimed at users who want ammunition versatility together with more dynamic operation.
Always check the intended projectile, corresponding magazine and manufacturer’s instructions before loading the pistol.
Umarex HPP
The Umarex HPP combines Blowback operation with a substantial use of metal components. It is intended for recreational shooters who value weight, slide movement and a more substantial feel in the hand.
Umarex Racegun Competition II
The Umarex Racegun Competition II uses styling inspired by pistols associated with dynamic shooting disciplines. Its configuration distinguishes it from conventional compact pistols and is primarily intended for plinking and recreational shooting.
Umarex XBG and TDP45
The Umarex XBG and TDP45 follow a deliberately simple and functional design. These steel-BB pistols use a fixed slide and suit users who prioritise ease of use, light weight and an accessible price over Blowback operation.
Umarex-licensed Colt and HK replicas
The collection may also include licensed Colt and Heckler & Koch replicas. On these products, Umarex acts as the manufacturer or licensing partner, while the commercial identity belongs to the platform being represented.
These pistols should be compared individually according to ammunition, materials, slide operation and the required level of external detail.
What does Full Metal mean?
The term Full Metal indicates a substantial use of metal components, particularly in the external construction or slide. It does not necessarily mean that every component in the pistol is made from metal.
The frame, grips, internal components or functional parts may still use polymer. Check the material specification for the individual model before choosing.
How to choose an Umarex CO₂ pistol
| Criterion | What to check |
|---|---|
| Own-brand model or replica | Choose between an Umarex platform and the licensed reproduction of another brand. |
| Ammunition | Compatibility with Diabolo pellets, steel BBs or multiple approved projectiles. |
| Calibre | It must match the manufacturer’s specification exactly. |
| Blowback | Choose between a moving slide and generally more efficient CO₂ consumption. |
| Construction | Compare the use of metal and polymer, overall weight and balance. |
| Magazine | Check capacity, feeding system and availability of compatible spare magazines. |
| Sights | Check the sight design, adjustment options and presence of an accessory rail. |
Which Umarex CO₂ pistol should you choose?
- For greater versatility: compare models such as the UX SA10 and check the approved projectiles.
- For more dynamic operation: choose a Blowback pistol with a moving slide.
- For simplicity and efficient gas use: an XBG, TDP45 or another non-Blowback model may be more suitable.
- For sport-inspired styling: consider the configurations in the Racegun range.
- For realism and collecting: compare licensed replicas by brand, materials and external detail.
- For target shooting: pay particular attention to ammunition, barrel type and sights.

- Use compatible ammunition: follow the specified calibre, shape and projectile material.
- Protect the seals: use only products suitable for CO₂ systems and recommended by the manufacturer.
- Avoid prolonged storage under pressure: follow the Umarex procedure for removing a pierced capsule.
- Keep the mechanism clean: do not introduce unsuitable products into the barrel, valve or magazine.
- Check accessories carefully: confirm the exact reference before buying a magazine or replacement part.
Safety and responsible use
A CO₂ pistol is not a toy. It must be used responsibly, in a suitable shooting area and in accordance with applicable regulations.
Wear eye protection, use a suitable pellet trap and ensure that nobody can enter the line of fire. Always treat the pistol as though it were loaded and never point the muzzle towards a person or animal.
Frequently asked questions about Umarex CO₂ pistols
What is Umarex?
Umarex is a German company specialising in airguns, CO₂ systems and replicas produced under licence from different brands.
Are all Umarex pistols replicas?
No. Umarex markets its own models under the Umarex or UX identities as well as licensed replicas of platforms belonging to other brands.
Do all Umarex CO₂ pistols have Blowback?
No. Some models use a moving Blowback slide, while others have a fixed slide. The operating system must be checked for each pistol.
What ammunition do Umarex pistols use?
It depends on the model. Some use Diabolo pellets, while others fire steel BBs. Selected systems accept more than one specifically approved projectile type.
Can the Umarex UX SA10 fire pellets and BBs?
The UX SA10 uses a system designed for different compatible 4.5 mm projectiles. Use the correct magazine and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
What is the difference between Blowback and a fixed slide?
Blowback uses part of the CO₂ to move the slide and provide more dynamic operation. A fixed-slide pistol generally uses the available gas more efficiently.
What does Full Metal mean?
It indicates a substantial use of metal components, but does not guarantee that every part of the pistol is made from metal.
How many shots does a CO₂ capsule provide?
There is no universal figure. Shot count depends on the pistol, temperature, rate of fire, seal condition and whether it uses Blowback.
Can a CO₂ capsule be left inside the pistol?
It is not advisable to store the pistol for a long period with a pierced capsule installed. Continuous pressure may affect the seals. Follow the instructions for the individual model.
What should be checked before buying a spare magazine?
Check the represented brand, exact model, version, ammunition and feeding system. Magazines that look similar may not be compatible.

Hello, Despite my antivirus alerts, this website is trustworthy. Very competitive prices, excellent communication, and incredibly fast delivery times. I placed an order on December 17, 2025, after contacting them by phone. They were very helpful and did everything they could to ship the package the same day... And indeed, it arrived two days later, on December 19, 2025, at 8:51 a.m. (Shipping from Spain to France, amazing!)

I had the pleasure of purchasing the 150th Anniversary Edition Cometa 400 Fenix at the lowest price I could find online from these kind people. I also indicated that I am passionate about wood and that it would be great if they could send me a nicely figured example. These come with Spanish Walnut stocks. I'm not sure what was done in the background, but I can certainly say my hopes were met on this point!! Excellent communication and overall customer service as I had a few inquiries that were promptly answered. Shipping to France was FAST, easy, and inexpensive. I don't normally write these reviews, but this exceptional service motivated me to do so. I highly recommend this store!
