What types of air rifles exist and which one is best for me?

Excluding PCP rifles, there are three main types of compressed air rifles: spring-loaded, pneumatic piston (gas ram) and CO2.
Spring: Ideal for beginners and children, with models less than 7.5 joules, but there are also high-power options and larger chambers. European brands include Gamo, Diana and Cometa; Turkish ones include Hatsan; and the Chinese ones include Snowpeak.
Gas Piston (IGT): Provides smoother and more consistent shots, with less vibrations. Gamo is an affordable option made in Spain. Hatsan and Cometa also stand out, the latter manufactured by hand in Eibar.
CO2: They use 12 gram CO2 capsules, they are lower in power and price, ideal for recreational shooting and plinking. Featured brands include Crosman, Daisy and Umarex.

What caliber should I choose for my air rifle?

The choice of caliber must consider the distance at which you are going to shoot, thinking about the ballistic curve of each caliber and the weight of the pellet:
.177 (4.5 mm): Ideal for precision and competitions, with a flatter ballistic curve for long distances. Pellet weight between 7 and 10 grains (0.45 - 0.65 grams). Energy example: an 8 grain (0.52 gram) pellet at 300 m/s (985 fps) would have an energy of approximately 23.4 joules. Effective distance: up to 50 meters.
.22 (5.5mm): Best for small game and pest control, with greater impact and energy, but a steeper ballistic curve at longer ranges. Pellet weight between 14 and 18 grains (0.91 - 1.17 grams). Energy example: a 16 grain (1.04 gram) pellet at 200 m/s (656 fps) would have an energy of approximately 20.8 joules. Effective distance: up to 40 meters.
.25 (6.35 mm): Suitable for big game and robust targets, with greater impact, but a steeper ballistic curve. Pellet weight between 25 and 30 grains (1.62 - 1.94 grams). Energy example: a 27 grain (1.75 gram) pellet at 150 m/s (492 fps) would have an energy of approximately 19.7 joules. Effective distance: up to 30 meters.

What aspects should I consider when buying an air rifle?

Carbine type: Spring, gas piston (IGT) or CO2. Think about the use you are going to give it (precision, pest control, plinking), since this is a determining factor in choosing the appropriate caliber and technology.
Caliber: The choice of caliber must consider the distance at which you are going to shoot, thinking about the ballistic curve of each caliber and the weight of the pellet:
.177 (4.5 mm): Ideal for precision and competitions, with a flatter ballistic curve for long distances. Pellet weight between 7 and 10 grains (0.45 - 0.65 grams). Energy example: an 8 grain (0.52 gram) pellet at 300 m/s (985 fps) would have an energy of approximately 23.4 joules. Effective distance: up to 50 meters. The energy begins to decrease significantly beyond this distance.
.22 (5.5mm): Best for small game and pest control, with greater impact and energy, but a steeper ballistic curve at longer ranges. Pellet weight between 14 and 18 grains (0.91 - 1.17 grams). Energy example: a 16 grain (1.04 gram) pellet at 200 m/s (656 fps) would have an energy of approximately 20.8 joules. Effective distance: up to 40 meters. The energy begins to decrease significantly beyond this distance.
.25 (6.35 mm): Suitable for big game and robust targets, with greater impact, but a steeper ballistic curve. Pellet weight between 25 and 30 grains (1.62 - 1.94 grams). Energy example: a 27 grain (1.75 gram) pellet at 150 m/s (492 fps) would have an energy of approximately 19.7 joules. Effective distance: up to 30 meters. The energy begins to decrease significantly beyond this distance.
Speed and power: The exit speed of the ball is crucial. For .177 models, an average velocity may be 300 m/s (985 fps); for .22, 200 m/s (656 fps); and for 6.35 mm, 150 m/s (492 fps).
Scope Compatibility: Make sure the rifle allows scope mounting if you plan to use one to improve your accuracy.
Ease of finding spare parts: Opt for well-known brands that offer easy access to spare parts and maintenance.
Ergonomics and weight: Consider the size and weight of the rifle in relation to your comfort during prolonged use. Lighter models are better for younger or smaller users.
Local legislation: In Spain, all the air rifles we sell comply with Spanish law and weapons regulations, and do not require a weapons license. It is important to check the specific regulations in your region.

The first online purchase I made at this gun shop is worthy of framing with an unbeatable impression. I ordered several models of pellets… and the truth is that they arrived like a bullet. They didn't even take 18 hours! I received the order in perfect packaging, which made it easier to preserve during transport. A single box of pellets arrived with them quite dirty, as if there was little turnover of that item, but nothing out of the ordinary and that can't be solved by cleaning them before firing them. In short, excellent service and good product. They have gained a repeat customer.

What It is a compressed air rifle

An air rifle is a type of weapon that uses compressed air as a propellant to fire projectiles, instead of gunpowder. These rifles are popular for both recreational shooting as well as small game and pest control activities. They work through a piston or spring mechanism that compresses the air when cocking the weapon. When fired, compressed air is released, pushing the projectile through the barrel.

The best compressed air rifle

Determining the best air rifle depends on the user's individual needs and preferences. Among the most recognized brands are Gamo, Cometa and Hatsan, which offer rifles with various features and advanced technologies.
