Which air pistol should you choose?

There is no single power system that suits every shooter. Start with the intended use, then compare ammunition, calibre, loading method, maintenance requirements and budget.

CO₂, PCP, spring-powered or gas-ram?

Diabolo pellets or steel BBs?

Diabolo pellets and steel BBs are different types of ammunition. The projectile must match the calibre, barrel and feeding system specified for the air pistol.

4.5 mm/.177 and other air-pistol calibres

4.5 mm/.177 is the most common air-pistol calibre and provides the widest choice of pellet pistols, steel-BB replicas and ammunition. Some PCP air pistols and specialist platforms are also available in 5.5 mm/.22 or other calibres.

Calibre should not be assessed on its own. The powerplant, stated energy, projectile weight, barrel, shooting distance and intended use all affect performance. Always confirm the exact calibre and ammunition format on the selected product page.

Accuracy, power and shooting control

More muzzle energy does not automatically produce better accuracy. Barrel quality, shot-to-shot consistency, trigger control, sights, grip, ammunition and shooter technique all affect group size.

For target shooting, a balanced pellet pistol that suits the user can be more useful than a model chosen solely from velocity or energy figures. The specifications of each product variant should therefore be considered as a complete system.

Blowback pellet pistols and realistic CO₂ replicas

A Blowback pistol uses part of its CO₂ supply to move the slide after each shot. This provides more movement and realistic handling, but it generally consumes more gas than a fixed-slide model.

When comparing realistic pellet guns and steel-BB replicas, check the ammunition, capacity, controls, overall weight, slide material and availability of spare magazines. A metal-body air pistol may feel different from a lighter synthetic design, but construction varies between individual models.

Affordable air pistols and CO₂ revolvers

If you are working with a limited budget, our range of affordable air pistols provides entry-level options across different power systems. Price should still be considered alongside ammunition, consumables, controls and intended use.

CO₂ revolvers form a separate group because of their shape, handling and loading systems. Depending on the model, they may use individual shells, rotary magazines or other cylinder arrangements.

Air-pistol ammunition and accessories

Every air pistol requires compatible ammunition and a properly prepared target area. Additional consumables and equipment depend on the power system and exact model.

Maintenance, storage and responsible handling

Store the air pistol unloaded, separate from its ammunition and protected from unauthorised access. Use only the stated projectile and calibre, and follow the manufacturer’s safety and maintenance instructions.

Do not leave a pierced CO₂ capsule installed for an extended period unless the manufacturer specifically permits it. With PCP pistols, observe the maximum fill pressure, filling procedure and compatibility of the charging equipment. Stop using the pistol if you find a leak, damaged component or abnormal operation.
