Stoeger GRS Gas-Ram Air Rifles

On Stoeger air rifles, GRS stands for Gas Ram System. This system uses a sealed gas ram in place of the conventional coiled mainspring.

A gas ram changes the cocking and firing cycle and avoids some of the oscillation associated with a coiled spring. However, the rifle still uses a moving piston and continues to produce recoil and internal movement. A Stoeger GRS is therefore neither recoilless nor completely vibration-free, and its behaviour should not be confused with that of a PCP air rifle.

The Stoeger XM1 family comprises the brand’s pre-charged pneumatic platforms. Unlike a spring-piston or gas-ram rifle, a PCP uses an air reservoir that must be filled from an external high-pressure air source.

A PCP air rifle does not move a heavy piston through the action during each shot. This produces a different firing cycle and can provide a consistent shot string when the fill pressure, pellet and rifle setup are correctly matched.

The XM1 family includes several different configurations:

• Stoeger XM1: a PCP platform with a conventional rifle layout.
• Stoeger XM1 Bullpup: a compact configuration with the action positioned further to the rear.
• Stoeger XM1 Ranger: a model-specific configuration with its own barrel and air-cylinder arrangement.

To fill a Stoeger XM1, you will need a suitable high-pressure hand pump, a compatible charging cylinder or a PCP compressor. Always check the maximum permitted fill pressure and the correct filling connector for the exact model.

Stoeger XM1 vs Stoeger RX

Stoeger S3, S4 and TAC Configurations

Some Stoeger air rifles carry designations such as S3 or S4. These refer to integrated sound-moderation systems used on specific barrel configurations. Their design and inclusion depend on the exact model.

Sound levels vary according to calibre, power, pellet, surroundings and rifle configuration. It should not be assumed that all S3 or S4 variants produce the same acoustic result.

The TAC designation identifies versions with tactical-inspired styling and ergonomics. Depending on the model, this may involve a different stock, fore-end or accessory interface. TAC does not identify a particular power system.

Ergonomics and Adjustment
