Hatsan PCP air rifles: power, shot count and different configurations
Hatsan PCP air rifles use pre-charged compressed air stored in a high-pressure cylinder to propel the pellet. This allows several shots to be fired before the cylinder needs refilling and produces considerably less internal mechanical movement than a spring-piston or gas ram air rifle.
Within our complete range of air rifles, Hatsan stands out for its particularly broad PCP line-up. The manufacturer offers conventional rifles, compact platforms, bullpup designs, multi-shot systems and air cylinders with different capacities.
This collection focuses specifically on Hatsan PCP air rifles. To compare them with pre-charged pneumatic rifles from other manufacturers, browse our main range of PCP air rifles. Hatsan PCP, spring-piston and Vortex gas ram models are also brought together in the wider Hatsan air rifle collection.
Which Hatsan PCP air rifle should you choose?
There is no single Hatsan PCP rifle that suits every shooter. The brand produces platforms with very different characteristics, ranging from relatively light and straightforward models to larger rifles with high-capacity cylinders and more extensive adjustment options.
The available range may change, but these are some of the best-known Hatsan PCP families:
| Family | Layout | Main characteristics | Worth considering if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flash and FlashPup | Conventional or bullpup, depending on model | Manageable dimensions, multi-shot magazines and different stock options | You want an accessible and relatively compact PCP platform |
| AT44 | Conventional rifle layout | Established PCP platform offered in several configurations | You prefer traditional rifle ergonomics and control placement |
| BT65 | Larger conventional PCP rifle | Good air capacity and several stock and equipment configurations | Shot count, stability and a robust full-size platform are priorities |
| Factor | PCP platform with greater adjustability | More configuration options, depending on the individual version | You want greater control over the rifle’s set-up |
| BullMaster and other bullpups | Bullpup | Reduced overall length through a rearward-positioned action | A compact overall platform is particularly important |
| Hercules and larger-cylinder platforms | Higher-capacity PCP configuration | Greater volume of stored compressed air and a larger overall format | Shot count between fills is a major consideration |
Availability, calibre and specification can change. The products displayed above this description provide the current reference. Always check the technical specifications of the exact version before making a decision.
Conventional Hatsan PCP or bullpup?
One of the first decisions concerns the rifle’s layout. On a conventional PCP air rifle, the action sits ahead of the grip. A bullpup positions the action and magazine further towards the rear.
This arrangement can reduce overall length without shortening the barrel by the same amount. It also changes the balance, magazine position, access to the controls and the way the rifle mounts to the shoulder.
- Conventional layout: traditional positioning of the action, magazine and controls.
- Bullpup layout: shorter overall package achieved by moving the action rearwards.
- Main selection criteria: weight, balance, ergonomics and intended use.
Neither layout is automatically better for every shooter. The right option is the one that provides a comfortable, stable and repeatable shooting position.
Air cylinder, filling pressure and shot count
The air cylinder is one of the key components of a PCP air rifle. Its volume and filling pressure determine how much compressed air is available, but they do not provide a complete measure of the number of usable shots from each fill.
Calibre, energy output, valve tuning, regulator settings and the overall efficiency of the system also influence air consumption. Two rifles with similar cylinder capacities may therefore provide different shot counts.
When comparing Hatsan PCP air rifles, consider the following together:
- Air cylinder capacity.
- Maximum filling pressure.
- Calibre and energy of the specific version.
- Manufacturer’s estimated shot count.
- Whether the rifle is regulated.
- The design and handling of the air cylinder.
Never exceed the maximum filling pressure stated by the manufacturer.
Regulated and unregulated Hatsan PCP air rifles
Some PCP air rifles use a regulator to control the pressure supplied to the firing valve. An unregulated PCP operates directly from the pressure available inside the air cylinder.
A regulator can help maintain a more consistent working pressure over part of the fill. Its presence does not, however, guarantee better accuracy on its own. Barrel quality, pellet choice, trigger, pressure, rifle set-up, optics and shooting technique also affect group size.
Check whether the exact version is factory regulated and what adjustment options are actually provided. Rifles from the same family may not share an identical specification.
Multi-shot magazines and cocking systems
Many Hatsan PCP air rifles use rotary magazines and either a bolt-action or side-lever cocking system, depending on the individual platform.
Magazine capacity varies by model and calibre. Larger-diameter pellets require more room inside the magazine, so different calibre versions of the same rifle may not have the same capacity.
Before choosing, check:
- Magazine capacity in the selected calibre.
- Number of magazines supplied.
- Loading and insertion procedure.
- Availability of spare magazines.
- Compatibility with the exact model and generation.
- Availability of a single-shot tray, where applicable.
Two Hatsan magazines are not necessarily interchangeable simply because they use the same calibre.
Which calibre should you choose for a Hatsan PCP air rifle?
Hatsan PCP air rifles are available in several calibres. The correct choice should be considered alongside the energy of the specific version, pellet weight, usual shooting distance, trajectory and air consumption.
| Calibre | General characteristics | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| 4.5 mm (.177) | Generally lighter pellets and a relatively flat trajectory | Pellet weight, accuracy, available energy and shooting distance |
| 5.5 mm (.22) | Greater pellet mass than 4.5 mm and a wide choice of ammunition | Balance between mass, trajectory, energy and air consumption |
| 6.35 mm (.25) | Heavier pellets and generally greater air demand | Available energy, shot count, pellet drop and zeroing distance |
| 7.62 mm (.30) | Larger diameter and greater projectile mass for specific platforms | Rifle configuration, air consumption and ballistic behaviour |
If you are specifically considering this larger calibre, compare the available Hatsan 6.35 mm air rifles. This collection covers different Hatsan powerplants and is not limited to PCP models.
Which pellets suit a Hatsan PCP air rifle?
Pellet selection forms part of the complete rifle set-up. Two pellets of the same calibre can produce different group sizes from the same barrel. Weight, profile, actual head diameter and manufacturing consistency can all influence velocity, trajectory and accuracy.
The most suitable option should be established by testing several compatible pellets under comparable conditions. Selecting the lightest pellet simply to obtain a higher velocity does not guarantee the best result.
Browse our 5.5 mm (.22) pellets and 6.35 mm (.25) pellets and slugs to compare different weights and profiles.
Scopes and mounts for Hatsan PCP air rifles
A PCP creates less internal mechanical movement during the shot than a spring-piston or gas ram air rifle. The scope should still be selected according to the usual distance, target size and configuration of the rifle.
Magnification, objective diameter, parallax adjustment, reticle and mount compatibility are all important. The highest available magnification is not automatically the most practical option.
Our range of air rifle scopes allows suitable configurations to be compared. Always confirm the rail type, scope tube diameter and required mounting height before choosing the mounts.
How do you fill a Hatsan PCP air rifle?
A PCP requires an external source of high-pressure air. Depending on cylinder size and frequency of use, this may be a high-pressure hand pump, a suitable charging cylinder or a dedicated PCP compressor.
Before filling, check:
- The cylinder’s maximum working pressure.
- The required filling probe or quick connector.
- The condition of seals and high-pressure hoses.
- Adapter compatibility.
- The filling procedure specified in the manual.
Suitable hoses, probes, pumps and filling components can be found among our air rifle and PCP accessories. For electric filling, compare the available PCP compressors.
Hatsan PCP technologies to check by model
Quattro Trigger
Quattro Trigger is Hatsan’s name for its adjustable two-stage trigger system. The available adjustments depend on the individual platform and version.
QuietEnergy
Selected models use a QuietEnergy solution integrated into the barrel assembly. Its design varies by platform, and it is not fitted to every Hatsan PCP air rifle.
Scope rails
Hatsan uses different rail systems across its PCP range. Before fitting a scope, bipod or other accessory, check whether the rifle uses an 11 mm dovetail, a Picatinny/Weaver rail or a combined arrangement.
Stocks and ergonomic adjustment
The range includes synthetic and wooden stocks, together with versions offering adjustable cheekpieces, butt pads or other ergonomic features. These details should be assessed alongside the rifle’s total weight and balance.
Hatsan PCP or Hatsan Vortex?
PCP and Vortex are different powerplants. A Hatsan PCP stores pre-charged compressed air in a cylinder that must be filled from an external source. A Hatsan Vortex air rifle uses an internal gas ram that is compressed when the rifle is cocked.
- Hatsan PCP: multiple shots from each fill, minimal internal movement and external filling equipment required.
- Hatsan Vortex: self-contained piston powerplant, cocking before each shot and no PCP charging bottle or compressor required.
To compare both systems within the same brand, browse the Hatsan Vortex gas ram air rifles.
How much maintenance does a Hatsan PCP require?
Routine care involves keeping the rifle clean, secure and dry, checking seals and filling connectors and using clean air during every refill. Oils or greases that are not suitable for high-pressure air systems should not be used.
If the rifle develops a persistent leak, an unusual reduction in shot count or irregular operation, it should be inspected according to the manual or referred to a qualified technician. Pressurised components should not be dismantled without the appropriate knowledge and tools.
What is the best Hatsan PCP air rifle?
There is no universally superior model. A Hatsan Flash may suit a shooter looking for a light and straightforward PCP platform. A BT65 may appeal to someone who prioritises a conventional layout and greater air capacity. Factor models offer more adjustment potential, depending on the version, while bullpup designs stand out for their compact overall length.
For a balanced decision, compare:
- Calibre and energy.
- Shot count per fill.
- Weight and overall length.
- Conventional or bullpup layout.
- Magazine capacity and availability.
- Regulator and adjustment options.
- Rail type.
- Filling connector and maximum working pressure.
Are Hatsan PCP air rifles reliable?
Hatsan has an extensive PCP range and several long-established platforms. Long-term reliability still depends on correct maintenance, clean air, adherence to the specified filling pressure and the condition of seals and connectors.
When assessing a particular model, also consider its equipment, the availability of compatible magazines and parts and the technical support available for that platform.

I had the pleasure of purchasing the 150th Anniversary Edition Cometa 400 Fenix at the lowest price I could find online from these kind people. I also indicated that I am passionate about wood and that it would be great if they could send me a nicely figured example. These come with Spanish Walnut stocks. I'm not sure what was done in the background, but I can certainly say my hopes were met on this point!! Excellent communication and overall customer service as I had a few inquiries that were promptly answered. Shipping to France was FAST, easy, and inexpensive. I don't normally write these reviews, but this exceptional service motivated me to do so. I highly recommend this store!
