Field Target Trophy vs Baracuda and Baracuda Match

Field Target Trophy and Baracuda are domed pellet families, but they are not the same product. Within a given calibre, they may differ in weight, geometry and available diameter variants.

Baracuda Match is a separate model from both Field Target Trophy and Finale Match. Baracuda Match is not a flat-head pellet: the word Match does not identify one universal projectile shape across the H&N range.

For a useful comparison, select the same calibre first, then check weight, diameter and pack contents. No family is the best choice for every barrel; suitability depends on its combination with your equipment.

Baracuda 18: another weight option in .22

H&N positions Baracuda 18 between Field Target Trophy and Baracuda Match by weight in .22 calibre. It is a separate model that adds another comparison option within this calibre family.

Do not confuse Baracuda 18 with Baracuda, Baracuda Match or Baracuda FT. Check the selected variant’s product page for its weight, diameter and pack contents.

Baracuda FT

Baracuda FT has its own specifications. The abbreviation FT is part of the model name and does not mean that the figures for Field Target Trophy or another Baracuda version can be applied to it.

H&N Green and Power: material and coating

The names Green and Power do not mean the same thing. Distinguish them before choosing an alternative to a conventional model.

Field Target Trophy Green and Baracuda Green

Green versions are lead-free alternatives. The different material may change the weight and other characteristics compared with the conventional model in the same family.

Compare each Green version as a separate product. A shared name such as Field Target Trophy or Baracuda does not mean the specifications are identical.

Baracuda Power and other Power versions

Baracuda Power has a copper coating. That finish does not make it lead-free: a copper coating and a lead-free composition are different characteristics.

Check the declared composition and requirements of each Power model. Do not apply the properties of one version to the entire range.

Hornet, Silver Point, Crow Magnum and other H&N profiles

The selection also includes designs that differ from flat-head and domed families. Hornet, Silver Point and Spitzkugel offer different pointed profiles, while Hunter, Hunter Extreme, Crow Magnum and Terminator feature other head geometries.

Head shape alone does not guarantee greater accuracy or a particular result on the target. To make an informed purchase, check the actual profile, weight, length and material of the exact model.

Models such as Rabbit Magnum II and Grizzly also need individual assessment because of their geometry and requirements. Do not treat them as equivalent to any diabolo pellet sharing their nominal calibre.

H&N diabolo pellets and slugs: design differences

A traditional diabolo pellet has a head, a narrow waist and a skirt. Slugs have a different geometry and may impose specific barrel, diameter and feeding requirements.

Within the H&N slug range, compare Slug HP, HP II and Heavy as different products. Check exact diameter, weight, length and pack contents without assuming that one version shares another’s requirements.

Nominal calibre alone does not confirm compatibility. Check that the airgun manufacturer permits the projectile type and that the required dimensions are met.

H&N pellets and slugs for PCP air rifles

If you use one of our PCP air rifles, start with the exact model, its calibre and the manufacturer’s specifications. Operation using pre-charged compressed air does not always require the heaviest projectile.

Compare compatible diabolo pellets and, where the airgun permits them, suitable slugs. Pay particular attention to the available magazine length and the barrel’s dimensional requirements.

There is no universal chart that assigns an H&N family solely from an advertised energy figure. Weight, geometry and airgun configuration need to be considered together.

H&N ammunition for spring-piston and gas-ram air rifles

For spring-piston and gas-ram air rifles, follow the manufacturer’s ammunition guidance. The correct calibre is the starting point, followed by projectile type and specifications.

Flat-head and domed families offer different options, but a product name does not guarantee suitability for every air rifle. Compare the exact model and avoid choosing by velocity or weight alone.

H&N pellets for air pistols and CO₂ pistols

For air pistols, confirm the approved projectile type first. CO₂ identifies the power system, not whether the model uses diabolo pellets, BBs or other ammunition.

With magazine-fed or rotary-clip systems, check the length and shape limits. A projectile in the correct nominal calibre may still be unsuitable for the feeding system.

H&N pellet weight: grams and grains

Weight and calibre are different measurements. The same calibre family includes projectiles of different weights, and a heavier model does not guarantee a tighter group.

Grams (g) and grains (gr) are different units of mass. One grain is approximately 0.0648 grams. Use the same unit when comparing products and check that published values agree after conversion, allowing for rounding.

Light and Heavy help distinguish versions, but do not replace the product’s stated weight. Always check the specific variant.

Pellet head size: understanding 4.49, 5.51 and 5.52 mm

Some H&N pellets specify a head size in addition to the nominal calibre. For example, a pellet in the 5.5 mm calibre family may have a stated head diameter of 5.52 mm.

This identifies a dimensional variant, not a new airgun calibre. A larger diameter does not guarantee a better fit or greater accuracy in every barrel.

For slugs, check how the manufacturer defines projectile diameter. Do not automatically interpret these measurements in the same way as a diabolo pellet’s head size.

H&N pellet prices and pack quantities

Select the correct variant before comparing prices. Check the full name, calibre, weight, diameter and pack contents: two tins from the same brand may contain different products and quantities.

Calculate the price per 100 projectiles by dividing the pack price by the number of projectiles and multiplying the result by 100. Use this cost comparison for equivalent products.

Check availability for the selected variant too. A product listed in the catalogue is not necessarily in stock.

Store ammunition in its closed packaging in a dry place, protected from knocks. Do not use deformed or contaminated projectiles.
