Millett: Precision scope mounts and rings for rifle scopes

The Angle-Loc system is a scope ring design developed by Millett that allows lateral alignment adjustments through set screws integrated into the ring base.

This system simplifies scope centring during installation and allows small alignment corrections between the mount and the scope without placing stress on the scope tube.

By maintaining proper alignment with the rifle’s bore axis, the Angle-Loc system improves accuracy and reduces mechanical stress on the optic.

Ring height mainly depends on the objective diameter of the rifle scope and the configuration of the rifle.

The objective lens must sit high enough to avoid contact with the barrel or fore-end, but as low as possible to maintain proper alignment between the shooter’s eye and the optic.

For this reason shooters usually choose low, medium or high rings, depending on the objective size of the scope (for example 40 mm, 50 mm or 56 mm) and the type of base or rail installed on the rifle.

Correctly mounting a rifle scope begins with installing the appropriate base or rail compatible with the firearm, typically Weaver or Picatinny. Once the base is installed, the Millett rings are positioned on the rail or on the rifle-specific base.

The scope is then placed inside the rings and adjusted to achieve the correct eye relief while ensuring the reticle is perfectly level with the rifle’s bore axis.

During installation, screws should be tightened gradually and evenly in a cross pattern to avoid stress on the scope tube. For most scope rings, the typical torque specification is between 15 and 20 in-lb (approx. 1.7–2.2 Nm) for the top ring screws.

Following the correct torque specification prevents deformation of the scope tube and ensures a secure and stable mounting even on rifles chambered in powerful calibres.

Many Millett mounts and rings are designed to be compatible with Weaver and Picatinny rails, two of the most widely used mounting systems on hunting rifles, sporting rifles and tactical platforms.

Both systems use transverse slots to secure rings and mounts firmly to the rail. However, the Picatinny standard (MIL-STD-1913) features more uniform dimensions and slightly wider slots than the Weaver system.

In practice, many Weaver mounts can be installed on Picatinny rails. However, some accessories specifically designed for Picatinny may not fit properly on narrower Weaver rails.

For this reason, it is always advisable to check compatibility between the rail and the mount before installation.
