A collimator is a precision tool designed to align a weapon's sight with the axis of the barrel, ensuring that shots hit the point of aim without the need for multiple tests.

In simple terms, a collimator allows you to adjust the optics of your weapon without firing. This is essential in scenarios where:

A new display has been fitted and requires a first alignment.
The ammunition has been changed and the projectile drop needs to be adjusted.
The aim is to optimize aiming without wasting bullets or losing time at the shooting range.
Bushnell collimators stand out for their precision and ease of use, allowing quick and accurate adjustment of any scope or telescopic sight.

There are two main types of collimators, each with its advantages depending on the type of weapon and scope you use:

Optical collimators (rod or conventional boresighter)
They work through a system of lenses that project a reticle aligned with the barrel.
They are inserted into the barrel of the carbine or rifle using caliber adapters.
They are ideal for adjustments to hunting and sports shooting weapons with traditional scopes.
They allow calibration to be carried out indoors without the need for specific lighting conditions.
Laser collimators (laser bore sighter)
They emit a laser point directly from the barrel towards the target.
They are placed at the muzzle or inserted into the chamber with calibrated laser cartridges.
They are the best option for quick adjustments at the shooting range or night hunting.
They allow alignment to be verified even at greater distances than optical collimators.
If you use a PCP carbine or hunting rifle, an optical collimator will be sufficient. For tactical weapons, long-range shooting or magnum calibers, a laser collimator will offer greater precision and ease of adjustment.

The collimation process is simple, but requires attention to detail for maximum aiming accuracy.

Steps to align a scope with a Bushnell collimator:
Place the gun on a stable surface. Use a shooting bench or support to prevent movement during adjustment.
Insert the collimator into the muzzle or chamber depending on the type of collimator. Make sure you use the correct gauge adapter.
Adjusts the scope reticle. Look through the scope and rotate the elevation and windage turrets until the reticle coincides with the collimator dot (optical reticle or laser dot).
Check alignment at different distances. If using a laser collimator, test a target at 25, 50, and 100 meters to confirm accuracy.
Take test shots. Although the collimator provides you with a precise initial alignment, it is always advisable to take three shots at the final adjustment distance and correct for small deviations.
If the scope constantly comes out of adjustment after use, check that the rings and mounts are securely attached, as incorrect mounting can affect the calibration.

Collimation is not a process that should be done before every outing, but it should be done in key situations where the scope's accuracy may have been affected.

You must collimate your scope in the following cases:

After installing a new scope, as it comes without specific factory settings.
If you have changed the ammunition, especially if you use bullets of a different weight or tip type.
When the weapon has suffered a blow or fall, since impacts can disadjust the scope turrets.
Before an important hunt or competition, to ensure that the scope remains perfectly aligned.
If you notice that shots are beginning to drift unevenly, this may indicate that the scope has become misadjusted.
For hunters and precision shooters, it is recommended to perform a collimation check at least once a season and after each trip or prolonged transportation of the weapon.
