Hatsan spring-piston air rifles

A spring-piston air rifle uses a coiled steel spring and a piston. Cocking the rifle compresses the spring. When the trigger is released, the spring drives the piston forwards and compresses the air that propels the pellet along the barrel.

The system is entirely self-contained and requires no high-pressure pump, air cylinder or compressor. Families such as the Hatsan Airtact, Striker, Mod 95, 125 and 135 demonstrate the variety of configurations available within the brand’s spring-powered range.

Hatsan Vortex gas ram air rifles

The Hatsan Vortex system replaces the conventional coiled spring with a pressurised gas ram. The rifle remains fully self-contained, but its mechanical firing cycle and shot characteristics differ from those of a traditional spring-piston air rifle.

Vortex should not be confused with PCP. A Vortex rifle uses a sealed gas ram as part of the mechanism that powers each shot. A PCP air rifle stores high-pressure air in a refillable reservoir and uses that air to fire several shots.

Hatsan PCP air rifles

A PCP air rifle stores pre-charged compressed air in a refillable reservoir. Depending on the model and configuration, this allows multiple shots to be fired before the reservoir must be refilled. As no large spring-driven piston moves during the shot, the firing cycle is generally smoother than that of a spring-piston or gas ram rifle.

SAS – Shock Absorber System

The Shock Absorber System is designed to reduce the transfer of some of the vibration generated by the mechanical firing cycle on selected piston-powered models. Its availability and configuration depend on the individual rifle.

Hatsan air rifles are available in several calibres. The most suitable choice depends on the rifle’s powerplant, available energy, intended shooting distance and the ballistic characteristics required from the pellet.

How do you fill a Hatsan PCP air rifle?

Depending on the rifle and frequency of use, the reservoir can be filled using a suitable high-pressure hand pump, an air cylinder or a PCP compressor. For regular shooting, a compressor can provide greater independence when managing the air supply.
