What does Norica GRS mean?

GRS stands for Gas Ram System. Breaking the barrel compresses the gas strut and stores energy. When the trigger is released, the strut drives the piston forwards. The piston rapidly compresses the air in the cylinder, and that compressed air propels the pellet through the barrel.

GRS therefore remains a piston-powered system. Compared with a conventional spring-piston rifle, it changes the component that stores the energy rather than the basic method of air compression. It should not be confused with PCP: a PCP rifle stores pre-compressed air in a reservoir that must be refilled from an external source.

How to choose a Norica GRS air rifle

Calibre and energy

Consider calibre alongside the actual energy of the version offered. A high velocity measured with a light pellet does not describe the complete shooting behaviour. Compare muzzle energy, pellet weight and the intended distance.

Stock and ergonomics

Wood provides a traditional look and feel, while synthetic stocks cope well with normal outdoor handling. Length of pull, grip shape, cheekpiece and trigger reach are more important than material alone.

Weight and cocking effort

Additional weight can feel steady from a supported position but may become tiring during a longer session. The effort needed to break and cock the barrel must also suit the user.

Sights and scope mounting

Check the rail, mount height and recoil stop. Piston-powered air rifles generate forces in both directions, so the scope and mounts should be rated for spring-piston or gas-ram use.

Care and safe use

Store the rifle unloaded in a dry place, wipe external metal surfaces after use and periodically inspect the stock and scope-mount screws. Use only products intended for airguns and do not introduce unsuitable oil into the compression chamber.
