Every hunter/shooter must be able to aim accurately and quickly in all circumstances in order to achieve his objective. To do this, the first thing to do is to zero an Aimpoint scope. Let's not forget that one of the benefits of Aimpoint red dot sights is that once zeroed, there is no need to centre the scope.

How to zero an Aimpoint Red Dot Scope?

Members of our Algatec team went to the Aimpoint Training Jordan offered by GAMO a few weeks ago, where Erik As (Shooting Instructor) gave them the opportunity to test all the Aimpoint products.

To zero an Aimpoint rifle scope in the simplest way, it is recommended to shoot from a distance of 25 metres

Resetting an Aimpoint Red Dot riflescope

First, we must place the Aimpoint zeroing targets at a distance of 25 meters from the rifle.

We place the gun on a shooting bench, and then once the gun is well secured, we have to converge the Aimpoint scope, the red dot, with the centre of the target and the barrel. At this point we centre without reference (""" by eye"") the centre of the target, making the necessary click corrections to reach the centre of the target.

After that, we must take three shots in a row and then observe the impact points and triangulate them to centre on this reference. As we can see in the image below, the three shots have been grouped within a red triangle that we have drawn to determine where the shots are grouped. It can be seen that they have been shots that have impacted below the target and we proceed to continue with the adjustment to avoid this deviation.

With this triangulation or grouping of shots as a reference, we will make the corrections following the instructions of the centring target. By counting the number of squares between the initially obtained point of impact and the point of impact we wish to obtain, we can accurately and quickly know the number of clicks we need to move the adjustment screws to zero the Aimpoint scope.

This adjustment is done in an easy way, without the need to use large amounts of ammunition and time. In principle, by performing this operation two or three times you should be able to adjust the Aimpoint scope. However, it is perfectly understandable if you need more than this, but it is better to be sure before finalising the adjustment, as a rifle scope can be quite off and it is better to correct the clicks step by step rather than all at once, overdoing it and having to start from scratch.

It is important to keep in mind that our interest is not to hit the target at the moment of the hunt, or to make "a 10", but to enter what is known as the "Kill Zone" at the moment of the shot of the animal we want to kill.
