Aimpoint Mounts for Red Dot Sights: Secure Installation on Rifles and Shotguns
Aimpoint mounts form the critical connection between the red dot sight and the firearm. The correct mount provides a secure attachment, suitable optical height and consistent point of impact under recoil.
This category includes mounts for Aimpoint Micro, Aimpoint ACRO, optics with the A-CUT™ interface, tubular Aimpoint red dot sights and Aimpoint magnifiers. The range covers fixed and quick-detach mounts, spacers, adapter plates, scope rings and firearm-specific mounting solutions.
Before purchasing, check the exact optic interface, firearm model, available rail or mounting base and required mounting height. Micro, ACRO and A-CUT™ are different mounting systems and should never be treated as interchangeable unless a dedicated adapter is specifically approved for the intended combination.
Aimpoint Micro Mounts for H-1, H-2, T-1 and T-2
The Aimpoint Micro footprint is used by models including the Micro H-1, Micro H-2, Micro T-1 and Micro T-2. These sights can be installed using direct mounts, quick-detach systems or mounts designed for compatible Picatinny and Weaver rails.
Choosing a Micro mount involves more than checking the footprint. Mounting height and intended use are equally important. A low mount often supports a natural cheek weld on a hunting rifle, while the firearm’s receiver, stock design or iron sights may require a taller mount or spacer.
A mount for the Aimpoint Micro footprint is not automatically compatible with ACRO, A-CUT™ or tubular Aimpoint models. Always check the technical specifications of the individual product reference.
Aimpoint ACRO Mounts and Adapter Plates
The Aimpoint ACRO uses its own mounting footprint. Dedicated ACRO mounts and adapter plates allow compatible sights to be installed on suitable rifles, shotguns, rails and other firearm platforms.
Some conversion plates connect an existing firearm interface to the ACRO footprint. A plate is suitable only when both the firearm-side interface and the optic-side ACRO footprint are explicitly supported.
Before ordering, check:
- the exact Aimpoint ACRO model;
- the interface available on the firearm or rail;
- whether a direct mount or adapter plate is required;
- the final optical height created by the complete assembly;
- whether the required screws and mounting hardware are included.
A-CUT™ Mounts for Aimpoint COA and COA-R
The A-CUT™ interface is designed to provide a particularly low and rigid connection between the optic and firearm. It is technically different from both the traditional Aimpoint Micro footprint and the ACRO mounting system.
When selecting a mount for an Aimpoint COA or COA-R, the product must be explicitly approved for the A-CUT™ system and the relevant firearm platform. Similar dimensions or appearance do not confirm compatibility.
Aimpoint Mounting Systems Compared
| Optic or system | Typical mounting solution | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Aimpoint Micro | Direct mount, Picatinny/Weaver mount, LRP or quick-detach system. | Micro footprint, rail type, mounting height and firearm model. |
| Aimpoint ACRO | Direct ACRO mount or compatible adapter plate. | ACRO footprint, firearm interface and plate compatibility. |
| A-CUT™ | Dedicated A-CUT™ mount for compatible optics and firearms. | Exact optic, firearm platform and approved product reference. |
| Tubular Aimpoint models | Mounting ring or model-specific mount. | Clamping diameter, mounting height and available base. |
| Aimpoint magnifier | TwistMount or compatible flip-to-side/removable system. | Optical alignment, spacing and compatibility with the red dot sight. |
Aimpoint Mounts for Picatinny and Weaver Rails
Many Aimpoint mounts attach to a Picatinny or Weaver rail. Both systems use transverse slots, but their dimensions are not identical. A Weaver accessory should therefore not be assumed to fit every Picatinny rail, or vice versa, without checking the specifications.
Confirm the stated rail compatibility, recoil-lug width and cross-slot dimensions. On high-recoil firearms, the recoil lug must engage correctly with the rail to prevent the mount from moving under recoil.

Aimpoint LRP, QD and Quick-Detach Mounts
LRP and QD mounts are useful when the Aimpoint sight needs to be removed and refitted quickly. Depending on the model, the mounting system may use a lever, adjustable clamping mechanism or another tool-free or low-tool locking system.
A high-quality quick-detach mount can provide excellent return-to-zero performance. However, this depends on correct installation, consistent positioning on the rail, clean contact surfaces and correctly adjusted clamping force.
Even when using a repeatable quick-detach system, always check the point of impact after removing and refitting the optic. A QD mechanism does not remove the need to confirm zero.
Aimpoint Spacers and Mounting Height
Spacers or risers change the height of the red dot sight. On some products, measurements such as 30 mm or 39 mm may refer to the mounting or optical centreline height. They do not automatically describe a scope tube diameter.
The correct height depends on the firearm, stock design, existing sights and the shooter’s natural position. On a hunting rifle or shotgun, the red dot should enter the field of view quickly during a natural mount.
An unnecessarily high mount can weaken the shooter’s cheek weld. A mount that is too low may interfere with the receiver, iron sights or other parts of the firearm. The complete combination of firearm, mount and optic must therefore be considered.
Firearm-Specific Aimpoint Mounts
In addition to rail-mounted systems, Aimpoint mounting solutions are available for particular rifles, shotguns and dedicated mounting bases. These products can provide a lower and more compact installation but are compatible only with the specified firearm models and variants.
Check the complete firearm designation, model version, receiver configuration and available drilling or mounting interface. A mount intended for a similarly named firearm is not necessarily compatible.
If there is any uncertainty, consult a qualified gunsmith or specialist retailer before tightening screws or modifying the firearm.
Mounting Rings for Tubular Aimpoint Red Dot Sights
Some Aimpoint sights have a tubular body and are secured using a suitable mounting ring. In these cases, the ring diameter must match the optic’s designated clamping surface exactly.
For these products, a 30 mm or 34 mm measurement may genuinely indicate the ring’s clamping diameter. Aimpoint Micro and ACRO models, however, do not use a conventional scope tube. Always interpret the measurement in the context of the product type and technical specifications.
Aimpoint TwistMount for Magnifiers
The Aimpoint TwistMount system is used to position a compatible Aimpoint magnifier behind the red dot sight. The magnifier can be fitted or removed when required while the primary red dot sight remains mounted on the firearm.
For correct operation, the optical axes of the red dot sight and magnifier must align. Check TwistMount compatibility, mounting height, spacing between the optics and the available rail length.
How to Choose the Correct Aimpoint Mount
- Identify the Aimpoint model: Micro, ACRO, A-CUT™, tubular sight or magnifier.
- Check the optic-side footprint: the mount must match the sight exactly.
- Identify the firearm-side interface: Picatinny, Weaver, dedicated base or firearm-specific attachment.
- Determine the required height: it must suit the firearm’s geometry and the shooter’s natural position.
- Select the mounting type: fixed, quick-detach, adapter plate, spacer or mounting ring.
- Confirm the complete product reference: never rely solely on appearance or brand name.
Matching an Aimpoint Sight to the Correct Mount
The mount should always be selected for the actual optic being used. If you have not yet chosen your sight, compare the available Aimpoint red dot sights before checking the mounting footprint required by the selected model.
A high-quality mount cannot correct an incompatible interface. Equally, a premium red dot sight cannot deliver its full performance if the mount has unwanted movement, is incorrectly positioned or has been fitted using the wrong torque.
Installing and Zeroing an Aimpoint Red Dot Sight
Only install the optic on an unloaded and safe firearm. Clean the contact surfaces, position the mount correctly and follow the torque specifications issued by the mount and optic manufacturers. If different maximum values are provided, use the lower permitted value.
Insufficient torque can allow the mount to move and alter the point of impact. Excessive torque can damage screws, threads, the mount or the optic. A suitable torque driver is therefore strongly recommended.
After installation, the sight must be zeroed at the required distance. Follow our step-by-step guide explaining how to zero an Aimpoint red dot sight.
Common Mistakes When Choosing an Aimpoint Mount
- Confusing the Micro, ACRO and A-CUT™ mounting interfaces.
- Assuming complete compatibility between Weaver and Picatinny systems.
- Choosing by brand alone without checking the exact product reference.
- Selecting height without considering the stock and natural cheek weld.
- Automatically interpreting a 30 mm measurement as a scope tube diameter.
- Stacking adapter plates that were not designed to work together.
- Tightening screws without following the specified torque values.
- Failing to check the point of impact after removing and refitting the sight.
Frequently Asked Questions About Aimpoint Mounts
Which mount do I need for an Aimpoint Micro H-2?
You need a mount designed for the Aimpoint Micro footprint. You must also confirm the firearm-side interface, such as Picatinny or Weaver, and choose a suitable mounting height.
Will an Aimpoint Micro mount fit an ACRO?
No, not directly. Aimpoint Micro and ACRO use different mounting footprints. They can only be connected using an adapter specifically designed and approved for that combination.
Is A-CUT™ compatible with Aimpoint Micro or ACRO?
A-CUT™ is a separate mounting interface. Use only mounts that are explicitly approved for the relevant A-CUT™ optic and firearm platform.
Will a Weaver mount fit a Picatinny rail?
It may fit in some cases, but this should never be assumed. The cross-slot dimensions and recoil-lug width must be compatible with the specific mount.
What height should I choose for an Aimpoint mount?
The correct height depends on the firearm, stock, iron sights, optic and the shooter’s natural position. The red dot should appear naturally without placing the optic unnecessarily high or causing interference with the firearm.
What is an Aimpoint LRP mount?
LRP is a lever-operated quick-release system used on compatible Aimpoint mounts. It allows the optic to be removed and refitted quickly, although the point of impact should still be checked afterwards.
What is an Aimpoint spacer used for?
A spacer raises the red dot sight. It may be required to obtain the correct optical height, clear parts of the firearm or achieve a more comfortable shooting position.
Can I mount an Aimpoint magnifier behind any red dot sight?
Only when the red dot sight, magnifier, mounts and optical heights are compatible. Sufficient rail space and correct alignment between both optical axes are also required.
Do I need to re-zero after changing an Aimpoint mount?
Yes. After changing a mount, adapter plate or spacer, check the point of impact and re-zero the sight if necessary.
