Waterproof, water-resistant and water-repellent are not the same

A waterproof jacket is designed to prevent water from passing through its protective membrane under the conditions specified by the manufacturer. Construction details such as seams, zips and closures also influence overall protection.

A water-resistant jacket provides more limited protection and is generally intended for light rain or short periods of exposure. A water-repellent finish causes droplets to run off the outer fabric but should not be treated as equivalent to a waterproof membrane.

Always select the garment according to the expected conditions. For prolonged rain, prioritise a model explicitly equipped with a waterproof membrane and follow its care instructions to preserve its performance.

Gamo hunting and shooting fleeces

A hunting fleece provides thermal insulation without the weight of a heavy outer jacket. It can be worn over a breathable base layer or beneath a waterproof jacket as part of a flexible layering system.

The Gamo Leman fleece jacket is made from 100% recycled polyester with a weight of 210 g/m². It includes external zipped pockets, two internal pockets and a chin guard, making it a practical insulating mid-layer.

The Gamo Caspian technical fleece adds a breathable, windproof and water-repellent contrast membrane. It provides more protection from wind and brief moisture than a conventional fleece, although it should not be described as fully waterproof.

The Gamo Nebraska hooded fleece combines a high collar, hood, chin guard and zipped side pockets. It is suitable as a warm outer layer in dry weather or beneath a protective jacket when conditions deteriorate.

How to build a hunting clothing layering system

A layering system makes it easier to adapt your clothing to temperature, physical activity and weather changes:

1. Base layer: worn next to the skin to help manage moisture during physical activity.
